Femtocell Benefits For Operators

Ubiquisys is the only company to meet all of the requirements of a practical, sustainable small cells project:

  • User experience – only Ubiquisys femtocells actively manage interference effects and are specifically designed for shared spectrum deployment. The result is a high quality, dependable customer experience.
  • Performance – our residential femtocell provides 8 calls and 14.4Mbps HSPA, compared with 4 calls and 2 or 3 Mbps from other deployed femtocells. This clear performance advantage extends right across the Ubiquisys range of femto-powered small cells.
  • Environment – the energy footprint of femtocells is important, especially with residential femtocells that will be deployed in millions. Our residential femtocell consumes just 4.5W of power, compared with the other deployed femtocells which consume between 9W and 14W.
  • Flexibility – Ubiquisys Femto-Engine is the only system that enables operators to work directly with their preferred device manufacturer to design the femtocell that is right for them. That could be integration with a set-top box for residential, or Power over Ethernet (PoE) for enterprise, or a range of public space and outdoor options.
  • Price – Ubiquisys was the first vendor to break through the $100 wholesale price “barrier” for residential femtocells. Because the Femto-Engine system enables manufacturers to cost-optimise femto devices, this price advantage applies to all of our small cells.
  • Femto networks – Only Ubiquisys can provide self-organising femto networks for enterprise and public space applications. The low cost of installing these networks creates new service opportunities, for example making indoor solutions cost-effective for small businesses.
  • Data offload, service integration and apps – Ubiquisys Femto-Engine software provides complete data offload flexibility, easy integration with local and internet media, and a standards-based apps environment.
  • Small cells – Only Ubiquisys provides the complete range of small cells from a single network investment: residential, femto-integrated home gateway, small business, enterprise, enterprise SON, indoor public space/SON, outdoor metro, outdoor metro cluster and rural.
  • Independence – We believe that femtocells are like mobile phones – independent of the network they connect to. That’s why Ubiquisys is the only femtocell specialist; we don’t make core network gateways and we don’t do systems integration projects. Instead, we work with the operator’s chosen network partner and their chosen systems integrator. We’re also flexible about network interfaces, working interchangeably with Iuh, IMS, and SIP.
  • Roadmap – Ubiquisys is the only vendor to have developed Self-Organising Networks (SON) for femtocells running UMTS. This is a large head start as we develop LTE and multi-mode femtocells.
