Femtocell Intelligence
Femtocells are a natural bridge between several networks: phones, local networks, the internet, and the operator’s core network. To make full use of this bridging position, Ubiquisys femtocells have two unique capabilities:
- They terminate calls within the device, as though the femtocell was a complete UMTS network.
- The Femto-Engine Session Controller provides the “intelligence” to direct and manipulate the call or session in different ways.
Ubiquisys intelligent femtocells provide operators with a straightforward method for integrating femto capabilities into new services and applications:
- Data can be routed anywhere the operator chooses without restriction (home/enterprise LAN, internet, specific device/IP address etc).
- Voice calls can be “smart routed”, including to a local IP-PBX.
- Applications can run on the femto and modify, direct, trigger or otherwise data, voice and control information.
- There is local interaction with the mobiles – for example, the femtocell can generate its own SMSs and send to attached mobiles, or insert homezone notification tones.
- Enables maps to the different core network clients (GAN, Iuh, SIP, IMS) so migration or dual support (Iuh and IP-PBX integration is by configuration not different software.
- Bridges different connections (LAN, internet, radio) and different protocols (UMTS to the phone, uPNP on the LAN, XMPP etc on the internet).
