DOVADO and Ubiquisys Demonstrate 3G Small Cell with 4G Backhaul
24th February 2012
Mobile World Congress, Barcelona – DOVADO, the supplier of mobile broadband routers, and Ubiquisys, the developer of 3G and LTE intelligent cells, today announced that they have successfully demonstrated a 3G residential small cell with LTE backhaul. By combining technology from the two companies operators are now able to rapidly deliver a high quality, in-building mobile broadband service to areas where 3G or fixed line services are limited due to the lack of infrastructure or spectrum.
The use of LTE in lower frequency gives greater in-building penetration than 3G and the news builds on Ubiquisys’ track record of innovation, including a deployment of rural femtocells in Japan, many of which are backhauled over satellite. Ubiquisys 3G small cell technology is commercially proven with mass-market deployments globally through operators such as SoftBank, Network Norway and SFR.
The DOVADO TINY made its debut in June 2011 and has since been adopted by several leading operators of 4G/LTE and 3G/DC-HSPA+ networks. Supporting 4G/LTE USB modems, the DOVADO TINY allows users to distribute the Internet access throughout a home or office with ease. It supports the widest range of commercial 4G/LTE (FDD/TDD) as well 3G USB modems and its capabilities also include SMS-based remote control and status notifications. These features allow subscribers to interact with their DOVADO TINY remotely from any mobile phone.
“Our mobile operator customers are deploying small cells in an ever wider range of scenarios including home, office and public space environments,” said Chris Gilbert, CEO Ubiquisys. “By providing a diverse range of flexible backhaul solutions, in addition to existing fixed line connections, they can deliver cellular coverage in areas that previously proved uneconomical.”
“As more and more LTE networks go live we are seeing an ever increasing demand for mobile broadband routers,” said Thomas Axaeus, CEO of DOVADO Europe AB. “By combing our product with femtocell technology we are able to provide these operators with a means of quickly filling the fixed broadband access gap. We are delighted to be working Ubiquisys in this innovative area.”
Ubiquisys will be exhibiting at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona at stand AV92 and DOVADO will be in the Swedish pavilion located in Hall 2.
