Ubiquisys Revealed as One of Britain’s Fastest-Growing Private Technology Companies
17th September 2012
UK small Cell Developer ranked 12th in the Annual Sunday Times Hiscox Tech Track 100 after Sustained Sales Growth of 151.82%
Swindon, UK – Ubiquisys, the developer of 3G and LTE small cells, today announced that it has been named as one of Britain’s fastest-growing private technology companies in the Sunday Times Hiscox Tech Track 100. The Tech Track 100 league table and awards programme is sponsored by Hiscox and Barclays, and compiled by Fast Track, the Oxford-based networking events and Research Company.
"Just as London 2012 will inspire young athletes, so too should the stories behind these Tech Track companies inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs. Brainy, tenacious and above all hard working, these privately-owned businesses deserve every bit of recognition for their important contribution to our economy,” said Steve Langan, Managing Director of Hiscox UK and Ireland, the title sponsor of the league table.
“We are delighted that Ubiquisys has ranked so highly in the Sunday Times Hiscox Tech Track 100. This reflects the company’s exceptional growth in recent years due to an increasing recognition of the benefits of small cells, and our heritage for ongoing technology innovation,” said Chris Gilbert, CEO Ubiquisys. “A small organisation that was founded in Swindon has transformed into a global telecoms market player with deployments both in the UK and worldwide in countries such as Japan, France and the US. With enduring commercial interest from mobile operators, the sky is the limit for our continued development and profitability.”
According to figures from Ofcom in July 2012, two-fifths of UK adults now use a smartphone. Around 20 companies either say they have benefited from the growth in smartphone use, either because they develop smartphone apps, use apps to boost sales, or help telecoms networks cater for the growing amount of data required. Ubiquisys is in the vanguard of this global movement.
The full findings are published in a special four-page supplement within the Business section of The Sunday Times on 16 September, both in print and online, and on www.fasttrack.co.uk

Notes for editors
Fast Track has published league tables of top-performing private companies with The Sunday Times for the past 16 years. Its invitation-only dinners provide a valuable opportunity for entrepreneurs to network and meet its sponsors. The company was founded and is run by Dr Hamish Stevenson, who also holds an associate fellowship at Green Templeton College, Oxford University.League table criteria
Companies had to be unquoted, independent and registered in Britain. They were ranked by compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in sales over their latest three financial years between 2008 and 2011 or 2009 and 2012.
The Tech Track 100 adopts the amended London Stock Exchange’s (LSE) techMARK definition of a technology company as one ‘that shows a commitment to innovation, research and product development, and operates in sectors including software, internet, telecoms and biotech’.
For financial years lasting for more or fewer than 52 trading weeks, figures were annualized on a simple pro-rata basis. Annualized sales had to exceed £250,000 in the base year (2008 or 2009) and £5m in the latest year (2011 or 2012). Companies also had to increase in sales in the latest year, but not necessarily be in profit.
The research was carried out by Fast Track between May and August. The majority of companies were interviewed by telephone or in person by the Fast Track team.
