Ubiquisys Named #1 Indoor Small Cell Access Point Vendor by ABI Research

28th March 2012

Company receives top ranking, followed by Alcatel-Lucent and Huawei

London, UK - Ubiquisys, the developer of 3G and LTE intelligent cells, has been ranked at the top of the latest Indoor Small Cell Vendor Matrix, released by ABI Research. The matrix compares small cell access point vendors and ranks them based on a comprehensive range of criteria linked to Innovation and Implementation. It primarily covers vendor competitiveness in residential and enterprise environments, but also recognises capabilities in public access small cells.

Ubiquisys was ranked #1 overall, thanks to strong commercial momentum in winning contracts and deploying cells through its partners, which include Nokia Siemens Networks and NEC. On the innovation front, Ubiquisys has demonstrated a rapidly expanding set of customer-proven innovations, including:

  • ActiveRadio® - the only deployed real-time interference mitigation and performance optimisation system
  • ActiveSON® - the first self-organising network (SON) of small cells, commercially deployed by NetworkNorway
  • SideStep® - the latest addition to the ActiveRadio® suite, delivering new levels of spectrum efficiency and interference mitigation
  • CloudBase® - the first lifecycle management system for small cells, streamlining supply chain, activation, auto-recovery and service enhancement
  • EdgeCloud® - a combination of small cells integrated with cloud computing platforms based on Intel® Architecture

“Ubiquisys takes the top spot on the back of its continued commitment to innovation with technologies like SideStep, CloudBase, and EdgeCloud, while keeping its commercial contracts ticking through partnerships with NEC and Nokia Siemens Networks,” commented Aditya Kaul, Principal Analyst and Practice Director, Mobile Networks, ABI Research. “Ubiquisys’ dedicated focus on the small cell area allows it to stay a couple of steps ahead of its larger rivals when it comes to introducing innovative techniques that should shape the future of the small cell market.”

“At Ubiquisys we know that our commercial success is based on a powerful set of practical, patented technologies that have been field-proven by operators in extreme environments,” said Chris Gilbert, CEO of Ubiquisys. “The seismic shift in smart device adoption and behaviour is accelerating demand for our ground-breaking set of small cell solutions.”

About Ubiquisys

Ubiquisys is a leader in intelligent 3G and LTE small cells, with products deployed by operators around the world.

The Ubiquisys difference is intelligence: small cells that continuously adapt to their surroundings and dynamically interact with their neighbours. Operators benefit from low operating costs and efficient use of spectrum assets, whilst mobile users experience dependable voice and high speed data services. The Ubiquisys small cell range includes public-access hotspots, self-organising networks for enterprise, and modular residential small cells designed for home device integration.

Working with Intel, Ubiquisys has pioneered the smart cell: part small cell hotspot, part powerful computing platform. This new class of small cell adds cloud and core networking capabilities at the edge of the network, bringing new services closer to mobile users. www.ubiquisys.com
